سوء استفاده از زنان آواره سوری در مصر

from Shahrzad News

It is hard to conceive of 60,000 dead Syrians. It would be as if every resident of Daytona Beach or Santa Cruz, Calif., were wiped out. Still, if you don’t live in these towns it’s hard to picture. But however hard it is (or because it is hard) to conceive of such large numbers of dead, the world — and the U.S., specifically — have allowed 60,000 Syrians to be slaughtered. Nevertheless, when 65 dead Syrians are found, it finally gets some attention, perhaps because it is especially gruesome or perhaps because one can conceive of 65 whereas 60,000 seems to be an abstraction.

“President Obama pledged an additional $155 million in humanitarian aid for Syria on Tuesday.” Really, the problem isn’t enough humanitarian aid? Don’t get me wrong — that is needed but what would be better, of course, would be some definitive U.S. action to stem the mass murder. Aid is for victims; U.S. action would be to prevent more victims.

More than 60,000 people are believed to have died in the 22-month-old uprising against President Assad.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights – an activist group – reported loyalist troops bombing the town of Douma, near Damascus, and rebels battling troops at military checkpoints in the northern city of Idlib.

„When Pillay last briefed Council members on 2 July 2012, she called on the Council to refer the situation in Syria to the International Criminal Court (ICC). (This past Monday [14 January], Switzerland submitted a letter to the Council requesting it to refer the situation in Syria since March 2011 to the ICC. The letter was co-signed by 56 other member states including Council members Australia, France, Luxembourg, the Republic of Korea and the UK.) The issue of such a referral is sensitive in the Council for a number of reasons. Council members that are not signatories of the Rome Statute, traditionally have been wary of ICC referrals. In addition, the lack of strong follow-up of the Council to its two previous referrals to the ICC (Darfur and Libya) has made some other Council members cautious about referring a situation which may be perceived as a political move. There is also concern that an ICC referral could effectively remove the possibility of a political solution if President Bashar al-Assad were to step down.“

Syria crisis: Food aid ‚cannot reach a million people‘. The UN estimates that around four million Syrians need humanitarian aid. One million Syrians are going hungry and helpless due to the 22-month civil conflict in the country, the UN says. Meanwhile, the UN refugee agency said the number of refugees fleeing the violence in Syria had leapt by nearly 100,000 in the past month.

It said there were 597,240 registered refugees and individuals awaiting registration as of 6 January – up from 509,559 the month before.

Update 17.12.2012 The children in Syria are going to sleep cold and hungry. But the children who have left Syria to live in neighbouring refugee camps are experiencing the same fate. Children are dying because there is not enough adequate shelter or basic resources for them.

Every night is a struggle, and the bitter winter is showing no remorse. Parents are cradling their young ones for dear life, only to hold them even tighter the next night.

Update 05.12.2012 — Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church for the Eastern United States

Dearly Beloved in the Lord:

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

The unrest in Syria did not subside; more churches are burnt, more people are killed and many more are forced to leave their homes. In addition to this misery, kidnapping of our people for ransom increased. Your contributions which were sent to our Syriac people, were greatly appreciated by the recipients who needed them badly. With the donations that you and other churches will give, our Church in Syria will be able to serve our community better in providing food, shelter and other basic necessities.

With the coming of Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, we can’t help but remind you that your brothers and sisters in Syria will not have the chance to celebrate any of these events, due to the horrible conditions they’re going through. We are appealing to your generosity and Christian love, and asking you to contribute to a special collection at your church. The collection will be held on two successive Sundays: December the 9th, and December the 16th. We will channel your contributions, as usual, through Our International Christian Outreach (Suryoyo Relief Fund) directly to our Churches in Syria.

We ask the Prince of peace to bless you in the coming Holy celebrations of Christmas and New Year, and send peace and tranquility to our people throughout the World.

Yours in Christ,

Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim

Archbishop

(1 Corinthians 16:1,2)

As Christians, St. Paul reminds o our duty to come to the aid of our brothers and sisters who are in need. He writes to the believers in the city of Corinth about a collection for the brethren in Jerusalem saying: “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you mush do also: On the first day of the let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper.”

With winter settling in, life is becoming increasingly difficult for the 3 million Syrian refugees who have been forced away from home by intense bombing raids. A refugee camp near the Turkish border shelters some 12 thousand people surviving on food donations in tents provided by the Turkish Red Crescent. http://bit.ly/QWYpIN

There aren’t enough blankets to go around at the refugee camp near the Syrian village of Atmeh close to the Turkish border. Camp residents tussle over the few that are brought in by a truck carrying donations.

There isn’t enough of anything here. The most basic items are in short supply; no toilets, no electricity, and barely enough food.

Around 12 thousand people live in the camp, uprooted by the country’s brutal civil war, and now facing a bitterly cold winter.

Refugee Mariam Ghraibeh said:“By God it is difficult here, There is rain, we live in a tent and there is no heating here. There is not enough food . We don’t have running water. It is unbearable.” Around 3,000 of those in the camp are under the age of 12.

Abdullah Ahmed was badly injured when his house in Hama was bombed. He said “ We were inside our house and they dropped a bomb onto our home. And the house just exploded.”

The UN estimates that 3 million Syrians have been displaced since the conflict began in March 2011. http://bit.ly/UDVqDe

Three Syrian refugee children who died of cold in the Zaatari camp in Jordan were buried on Monday, in the border town of Ramtha.

The charity Save the Children is trying to raise money to equip families in Zaatari for the hard winter months ahead. Many arrived when it was warm. Most of the 41,000 Syrians in the camp are under 18.

Some 127,000 Syrians seeking safety in Lebanon improvise shelter as best they can, not even in camps. More than three times that number of refugees are registered in the countries neighbouring Syria.

Ahmed and his family have made a temporary home in a stable which is normally for sheep. In summer the problem was snakes.

The father said: “My boy asked me for shoes but I don’t have any money so he’s just keeping his old ones.”

An unfinished house provides shelter for Nadia, 30, who has four young children, the smallest girl just five months old. They fled Syria for northern Lebanon after a bomb destroyed the house just next to theirs, eight months ago. All of them have coughs.

“It’s cold,” said Nadia. “We’re hungry, we don’t have blankets, and we’re afraid what the winter will be like.”

In a shanty town in the Bekaa Valley, 50 kilometres from the border with Syria, there’s eight-year-old Ines, with her mother and brothers. They’ve built what they could, but it doesn’t stop the rain from getting in.

Ines said: “We’re always cold. We stay near the fire, but my brothers are always cold. It’s hard going anywhere because of the mud – even out to buy bread.”

The UNHCR said care for Syria’s refugees will cost at least 200 million euros this winter – money that hasn’t been raised yet – risking more funerals for those vulnerable to exposure and nowhere else to go. http://bit.ly/UVU5tQ

The Syrian civil war,[51] also referred to as the Syrian uprising,[52] is an ongoing armed conflict in Syria between forces loyal to the Ba’ath Party government and those seeking to oust it. The conflict began on 15 March 2011 with nationwide demonstrations as part of the wider protest movement known as the Arab Spring. Protesters demanded the end to nearly five decades of Ba’ath Party rule, as well as the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad.
