Dr. Soktsang is highly experienced in the field of Traditional Tibetan Medicine, having studied and practised over the past twenty years.

He commenced his studies in Tibet for a period of five years under the guidance of an uncle, who was also a doctor. This enabled him to enter the Central Medical Institute for Traditional Tibetan Medicine in Lhasa, where he studied for a further five years until he graduated with the MEN-RAMPA, (Tib.) or Masters Degree of Tibetan Medicine. After graduating, he went to work at the Lhasa Mentse Khang Hospital, the premier centre of excellence of Traditional Tibetan Medicine.

During his period there he received further teaching, instruction and transmissions from various famous Tibetan doctors, in particular from the most eminent Professor, KHENPO TSENAM, regarded by many as the greatest living practitioner and teacher in the field of Tibetan Medicine.

 >> Shang Shung Internation Institute for Tibetan Medicine <<

The International Institute currently has three main branches, located in Italy, Austria, and the USA, which work together as one to promote all initiatives to this end.

Having moved to India, Dr. Soktsang has not only worked at the Tibetan Medical and Astrological Institute at Dharamsala, and also at various other Centres around India, Ladakh; Shillong; Belakopi and Orrisa. Having worked in Orissa for the customary one year contract, he was particularly requested by the local people to stay on for a further period. Due to the difficult climatic conditions of that part of India, Orissa is known to be a very challenging area to work in, having as it does high levels of poverty and malaria.

He became the founder and Chief Medical Officer of the Mentse Khang Medical Institute of Orissa, India; where the Institute and his work serve the whole community.

Not only is Dr. Soktsang experienced in Tibetan Medicine, but he is also a qualified practitioner of Acupuncture. He was one of the major speakers in the year 2000 at the Annual Medical Conference of Tibetan Medicine, held in Dharamsala, which is attended by Tibetan doctors from all over India and Asia. The particular theme of that conference was Diabetes.
