Omkaram, Bindu Samyuktham,
Nithyam, dyayanthi yogina,
Kamadam, mokshadam chaiva,
Omkaraya Namo nama. 1
Salutations and salutations to letter “om”,
Which is meditated as a letter Om with a dot,
Daily by great sages,
And leads them to fulfillment of desires,
And attainment of salvation.
Namanthi Rishayo deva,
Namanthyapsarasa gana,
Nara namanthi, devesam,
Nakaraya namo nama. 2
Salutations and salutations to letter “na”,
Which is saluted by great sages,
Which is saluted by groups of divine maidens,
And which is saluted by men and the king of devas.
Mahadevam, Mahathmanam,
Mahadyanaparayanam,
Maha papa haram devam,
Makaraya namonama. 3
Salutations and salutations to letter “ma”,
Which is saluted as greatest god,
Which is saluted by great souls,
Which is greatly meditated and read,
And which is the stealer of all sins.
Shivam Shantham jagnannatham,
Lokanugraha karakam,
Shivamekapadam nithyam,
Shikaraya namo nama. 4
Salutations and salutations to letter “Shi”,
Which is Lord Shiva,
Who is the abode of peace,
Who is the lord of the universe,
Who is the one who blesses the world,
And which is the one word that is eternal.
Vahanam Vrushabho yasya,
Vasuki Kanda Bhooshanam,
Vame Shakthi daram devam,
Vakaraya namo namo. 5
Salutations and salutations to letter “va”,
Which the God who holds in his left Goddess Shakthi,
And who rides on a bull,
And wears on his neck the snake Vasuki.
Yathra yathra sthitho deva,
Sarva vyapi maheswara,
Yo guru sarva devanam,
Yakaraya namo nama. 6
Salutations and salutations to letter “ya”,
Which is the teacher of all the devas,
Who exists wherever gods exist,
And who is the great God spread everywhere
Phalsruthi:
Shadaksharamidham sthothram,
Ya padeth Shiva Sannidhou,
Shivalokamavapnothi, Shivena Saha modathe.
Benefit:
If one reads this prayer of six letters,
In front of God shiva,
He would reach the world of Shiva,
And be always happy with him.
Hayagriva Sahasranaamam
OmkAram Bindhu samyuktham nithyam dhyAyanthi yOgina:
kaamadham Mokshadham chaiva OmkArAya namO nama:
Meaning
The Yogis meditate always on the syllable „Om“. This Om fulfils our wishes in this world andleads us to Moksham. Salutations to this syllable „Om“. Combination of the OmkAra PraNavam with different BheejAksharams leads to individual HayagrIva Sahasra Naamams. Some times, the BheejAksharams (SRI HAYAGRIVA SAHASRA NAAMAMS AS MANTHRAM:
„MananAth thrAyathE ithi manthra:“ is the definition of the Manthram used in esoteric and exoteric worship.
Manthram is the one that protects one through meditation. The sound vibration of the manthrams protects one who recites the manthrams. Sound is recognized as the arTAsrayam (shelter of meaning) from the specific combination of the 50 aksharams from अ (a) to ‘‘ (ksha). Sound is also the nature of the syllables (varNAs) composing it. The specificsound pattern is equated to Sabdha Brahman and SabdhArTa Brahman.
SABDHA BRAHMAN
Meaning:
(„a-u-ma“) are united. „A“ (a) refers to Lord VishNu, that all-encompassing, allpervading, who is the Creator, Protector and Terminator of all Universe. „m„(ma/makAram) refers to the Jeeva, the individual soul. The intervening (u) binds them in a neverbreakablelink, in which Jeeva is subservient to VishNu in a unique, one-to-one, intimate relation …. That Jeeva is for Para Brahman and only for
(„a-u-ma“) are united. „A“ (a) refers to Lord VishNu, that all-encompassing, allpervading, who is the Creator, Protector and Terminator of all Universe. „m„(ma/makAram) refers to the Jeeva, the individual soul. The intervening (u) binds them in a neverbreakablelink, in which Jeeva is subservient to VishNu in a unique, one-to-one, intimate relation …. That Jeeva is for Para Brahman and only for Him is the effect of concealed 4th case (aaya), later to be explicitly put as „NaarAyaNAya“.
BhindavE nama:
(113th NaamA)/ Bhindhu is the dot over a letter indicating anusvara. In the OmkAra PraNavam, the dot over „A“ (a) and “ (u) to form the OmkAram is the Bindhu.
VisargAya nama:
(114th Naama)/ Salutations to the light, splendour. The final beatitude associated with Lord HayagrIvan. In writing, Visargam is represented by (:), a distinct, hard aspiration and marked by two perpendicular dots (:). Example – nama:
DhAraNAya nama:
(204th NaamA:)/ DhAraNa means single-minded concentration. In AshtAnga YogA, it is the sixth limb, where the mind is concentrated on the Lord with fixed attention to gain Yoga Siddhi. Here Yoga HayagrIvan in dhaaraNa stage is saluted. He is doing Yoga nidhrA and concentrating intensively on how to rescue the suffering chEtanams.
